Can Dogs Sense Evil?

There is a vast body of research on canine senses and behaviour that tells us dogs can smell and hear things that we humans can’t. It’s not just physical things dogs detect. They have an innate ability to detect emotions, illness, good, or evil.

If you have a dog, you’ve likely noticed that they form an opinion of a person on their first meeting. They smell them and introduce themselves, at which point one of two things happen. Most of the time, they sniff someone and proceed to wag their tail, ask to be petted, or bring them a toy to play with it. Occasionally, they will start barking and avoiding the person. Dogs can sense when someone isn’t “good.”

It is also sometimes said that dogs can sense supernatural entities or ghosts. Whether you believe this to be true or not is mostly dependent on whether you believe that ghosts exist in the first place.

The Science Behind Dogs Sensing Good and Evil

The behaviour of others easily fools us humans, and we tend to believe what is right in front of us. Dogs get past this and see what’s really inside a person. While it may seem that your dog has a sixth sense, there is a scientific reason behind it.

Dogs pick up on body language easier than people do. They also judge the tone of voice rather than the actual words coming out. They don’t need to know what you’re saying to know whether you are happy, stressed, or have good or bad intentions. We don’t always see it, but our dogs do.

Your dog notices when people treat them unkindly and also those who are unkind to their owners. And they hold grudges. Dogs can also smell changes in people’s pheromones that indicate they have bad intentions. This is what signals a dog that the person is “bad.”

It is the ability to sense changes in pheromones that is thought to explain how dogs detect a person’s evil intentions. Considering that dogs are able to sniff out drugs, bombs, cancer, and drops in blood sugar levels, it’s no surprise that they can smell changes in our body chemicals too.

Some people feel that the reason dogs react negatively towards certain individuals is a reflection of their owners. This theory indicates that dogs are so in tune with their owners that they react to a person’s tension during an encounter.

The final theory is that dogs act on their sixth sense or “gut” feeling. Although this feeling is scientifically unsubstantiated, we all know what that sense feels like. Humans are just lazier about following it than dogs.

Signs Your Dog is Sensing Negative Energy

Dogs behave and react in a certain way when they sense negative energy. Some will display signs that they are nervous or fearful behaviour, while others act out aggressively. Dogs will often display these behaviours immediately if they feel a person is portraying negative energy.

Some dogs exhibit signs like tail tucking, hiding, whining, or backing away from a person if they sense negative energy. Others growl, snap, bare their teeth, or circle the person. This is an indication that your dog sense something wrong.

Can You Train Your Dog to Sense Evil?

You can’t really train your dog to sense whether a person is good or evil. They do it instinctively, and some dogs are better at it than others.

To determine whether your dog is good at this, watch their behaviour when greeting people. You might be surprised to notice that your typically friendly pooch shies away from certain people or seems to randomly bark at others. This is your dog’s heightened sense of awareness at work.

Can Dogs Sense Depression?

Dogs sense sadness and depression, and most of them respond with love and kindness in an effort to cheer you up. Dogs take in the mood of their environment and are able to smell levels of hormone production.

Do Dogs Know If You Don’t Like Them?

Dogs are able to tell the difference between angry and happy faces, and they are able to show jealousy. It also seems that they can tell when someone is untrustworthy. Dogs will usually stop listening or following commands from a person they deem unreliable.

Final Thoughts

Most dog owners will agree that listening when your dog doesn’t like someone is best. They are sensing something that you can’t, and your dog is trying to tell you something.
